Young Life Speakout Weekend 2013

Our Easter weekend at Grace was a busy one, with our evening service on Thursday, the Good Friday morning service, and a church walk on Easter Monday, all in addition  to our normal events. But as well as all that, we were delighted that the youth group, Young Life, were once again with us for their annual Speakout. The following is a report on their activities, written by one of the Young Life members:

“The long weekend started at 8pm on Thursday night. After the first session we had supper, then, at about 10:30 went to our rooms. The girls slept in rooms at the back of the meeting hall, whilst the boys slept in Bethesda, a nearby church. The Friday morning session included a talk by Ste Wells on how to be a good ‘open airer’.

During the weekend, we had around 7 hours of open airs, which drew good crowds of listeners. We split into 3 groups, and during the open airs each group had different responsibilities. On the Sunday afternoon, at least half a dozen young boys did their first ever open air talk, which was an encouragement to the whole team. Even more encouraging though, around 50 non-Christians were contacted over the weekend!

Other activities included the talks spread out over the different days, with speakers including Vinny Commons, Steve Taylor and Daniel Moore. We held 2 events that people were invited to. One was a DVD presentation on a converted martial-artesian, called ‘Taming the Tiger’, and an update on the work of Daniel Moore.

Saving the best till last, the food was great. We had 2 new cooks, who supplied us with plenty of sweets, crisps and an excellent Sunday lunch.

Personal highlights included the night times when the boys enjoy a good laugh together. Also, I enjoyed the talks, especially those by Daniel Moore as he was clear and informative. I would go again without doubt, and found it was an encouragement in my Christian faith.”
